If my parents only knew the passion
they awakened in me when they gave me my first camera
for my tenth birthday. Since that day, photography has
turned into a love that has steadily grown throughout
the years. For as long as I can remember, I have had a
camera close at hand to record those precious moments
that we all experience in our lives. A sister’s wedding,
a nephew’s first picture, a father learning to ski,
holidays, anniversaries, and many other precious events
that once they have passed, can never be recreated. The
memories we have in our minds fade over time, but with
images captured through photography, we can forever
preserve those events; even with the passing of time.
My lifelong desire to turn my passion into a profession
where I could make a difference in other people’s lives
finally became a reality in 1999. This was a year of
many personal changes that included my own marriage. The
wonderful man I call my husband recognized that
photography wasn’t just something that I loved and was
passionate about, but it was who I am and what I needed
to be doing. He encouraged me with his love and support
to take the “leap of faith” and totally devote my time
into creating memories that would last forever for
others. Although I was introduced to portrait and
wedding photography over thirty years ago, I immediately
began to take classes at the Brooks Institute of
Photography, specializing in portrait and wedding
photography. As a child, I used to pour over the pages
of the National Geographic magazine so you can only
image my thrill when I learned that one of my teachers
at Brooks was a renowned National Geographic
photographer!
While I have had many exciting twists and turns
throughout my life, photography has been a constant. I
have been honored to have my work published in several
magazines, done commercial work for large corporations,
as well as worked doing “event” photography. I have
always had the desire to better my art. I have been able
to accomplish this with my association with Pictage and
WPPI. These associations have allowed access to some of
the top portrait and wedding photographers in the
country, including Dennis Reggi, Bambi Cantrell and
Yervant. The time I have spent with these exceptional
photographers has further fueled my passion for my art.
One common piece of advice they highly recommend is
never to mimic them or their style, but to create one of
your own and be who you are in your photography. I
believe that I have created my own unique “flavor” with
the combination of traditional, contemporary
photography, mixed with a little photojournalism.
Through this, I become your historic reporter, there to
observe, capture and preserve your memories utilizing
natural and spontaneous images that will be enjoyed
beyond our lifetime. Moments fade from memory all too
quickly. I will create a pictorial legacy for you and
your loved ones that can be cherished forever. |
